In many ways, our small butcher shop in Potts Point provides an interesting case study for local butcher shops far and wide. As a suburb, Potts Point is one of Sydney’s oldest and the area, as a result, is seeped in history. Today, locals are largely affluent, but the suburb’s strong bohemian ties live on, giving way to a more discerning inhabitant.
Here, locals enjoy the convenience of being at a close distance to the city centre, yet the distance is enough for them to feel relaxed upon their return home from work, welcomed by tree-lined streets and a sense of community. Perhaps it is the collection of local shops, such as our own, that contributes to this feeling of belonging? Either way, it is a characteristic that defines Potts Point and over the years, I have come to know many of the characters, both shop owners and customers, which make up our eclectic community.
